Burswood railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network. It is located on the Armadale line, 4.8 kilometres from Perth station serving the suburbs of Burswood, Lathlain and Rivervale.

History[edit]

The station was originally to be named Burrswood, however it became Burswood after being misspelt by the station sign's painters when it opened in 1893.[1] The station was renamed Rivervale on 30 May 1923, mirroring that of the suburb that was renamed in 1921 in part due to the public's association of Burswood with sewerage processing;[2] On 31 March 1968, a new platform opened.[3]

However, after the Burswood Resort and Casino was built, the name reverted on 1 May 1994. Rivervale has survived as a suburb 600 metres east of the station.[3][4]

Station location[edit]

The station lies between Goodwood Parade and Victoria Park Drive. There are entrances to the station from either side of the tracks at the southern end of the platform, requiring passengers to cross the tracks at grade level.[5]

Burswood

Burswood Park is centrally located just minutes from Perth city on Great Eastern Highway.

Pedestrian access

Pedestrian access to the park from the city is available via the Causeway or Matagarup Bridge, or it's an easy walk to park attractions from nearby train and bus stations.

Arriving by public transport

Located on the Armadale/Thornlie train line, Burswood Station is situated on the north eastern end of Burswood Park. It is a 300-metre walk to the Burswood Park Board administration office, or a 15-minute walk through the park to the Swan River foreshore.

A second train station, Stadium Station, is located to the far north of Burswood Park, though it is recommended that park visitors instead use Burswood Station for best access to the main picnic areas and river foreshore.

A bus stop is located near Bolton Avenue for visitors travelling east on Great Eastern Highway.

Public transport routes and timetables are available on the Transperth website.

Driving a private vehicle

Visitors are welcome to drive their own vehicle to Burswood Park. There is plenty of car parking available and and parking is free. However, in peak periods and special event days on the Burswood Peninsula, parking within the park is at a premium and may be restricted, so please plan carefully in advance of your visit.

Riding your bike

Western Australia is a great place to explore by bicycle. The climate is sunny and much of the terrain is flat, so getting to Burswood Park via bike is really easy.

Whether you’re coming from the north, south, east or west, Perth’s extensive network of shared paths will get you here.

Soon it will be even easier to get here from the south-west, with construction on the dual use path along the Armadale/Thornlie line due to be completed in 2021.
